Malta's Men's Team Win Gold!

The MALTA MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM has won the Gold Medal for the first time since 1997 in the EUROPEAN SMALL NATIONS SQUASH TOURNAMENT this year held in Malta at the Marsa Sports Club. Playing against Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Monaco the team consisting of pro player Brad Hindle Deguara, Mike Fiteni, James Bonello Ghio, Steven Schranz, Bernard Bugeja and Steve Rizzo the tournament turned out to be the best any Malta team has performed since Hungary in 1997.

The team, managed by Malta’s National Coach Ivan Balzan performed brilliantly only dropping 4 sets out of a possible 60. This result augurs well for the GSSE in Liechtenstein in 2011 where Squash is included.

In the Singles event Malta’s 2 top players, Brad Hindle Deguara and Mike Fiteni finished in the final with Brad winning 3 games to nil to sum up a great week for the Maltese men. Presentation of medals and trophies was done at the Capua Palace by President of Malta Squash Liz Said and sponsors Chriter Guftafsson of Squash Club D’Elite and Arthur Castillo of Vascas Jewelers who presented the team with a wonderful silver Trophy specially made for the event.
